Dear Sirs:
Thank you for your February 5, 1996, letter in response to past VVA, Chapter 75's, President Tom Gladson's letter of October 10, 1995, regarding "WORLD-WIDE FIRMS URGED TO BOYCOTT BRAZILIAN LAW FIRMS DUE TO TORTURE & HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES."
Tom Gladson is no longer incarcerated at U.S.P. Leavenworth, thus the delay in responding to your letter. As the current V.P. of Chapter #75, I read your letter to the chapter today and forwarded same to John Gregory Lambros, an active member of our chapter. Mr. Lambros and the members of our chapter are pleased as to your firms' aggressive posture in pro-democratic activities in the past and currently due to Brazil's dictatorship regime. We believe your firms' current specialization in civil law can assist Mr. Lambros and the U.S. Senate in exposing the abusive practices that still exist within the capital of Brazil, Brasilia, at the Federal Police Station, specifically the use of the "DEPATTERNING CELL." It is interesting to note that Purvis Cartwright, a past member of our chapter, taught Brazilian Military how to use the cell in the late 1960's, after being built by the U.S. Army Corp's of Engineers. The cell and the use of implant technology was never to be used on an AMERICAN.
Chapter #75, will be honored to forward copy of this letter and you February 5, 1996 letter to U.S. Senators Helms and Kassebaum of the Foreign Relations Committee and,U.S. Senators Grams and Wellstone of Minnesota so as to acknowledge your firms' condemnation of torture and pro bono work in representing victims of sexual, political, racial and religious discrimination in Brazil.
I as all the members of WA, Chapter #75 extent our most sincere thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
{signed}
Jeffrey R. Leveriing, V. P.
